“Bring the Beach Inside! Staycation Ideas for Children”

It’s summer, it’s hot outside and all you and your children are dreaming about is the beach. If going to the beach is not in your plans then bring it inside your home with fun ideas, DIY activities and songs.

Start by reading together  “A Day at the Beach”/ “Un Día en la Playa” and identify what you see at the beach: sand, water, sea shells and so on. After reading it go through our suggested activities below and have fun bringing the sun, sea and sand inside.

Reading Time

Our book about a day at the beach is a source of powerful words of things they can see, smell, taste, touch, feel and hear at the beach as the example below shows.

Reading the book will give children lots of words they can use right away.

Go shopping

After reading the book you can take them to the store and walk up and down the aisles of the art and craft store (practicing safe social distancing and wearing their mask) and start identifying things they would need at the beach. Shop for shells, rocks, suntan lotion, coconut water and colored sand.

Arts & Crafts

Fish stencil

Go Fishing

Use the stencil above to cut out fish shapes in different colors.  Using foam will allow for the fish to float in the water. Glue some wiggly eyes and paper clips for the noses.  Find a short stick, add some string and tie a magnet at the end for the children to go fishing.

Get Outside!
